It lies on the River Nene, about 67 miles (108 km) north-west of London and 50 miles (80 km) south-east of Birmingham. It is one of the largest towns in the UK that has not been designated as a city. The group has already been active, launching a petition against the Northampton Forward Board's plans for Market Square, and now they are calling upon the council to appoint a Heritage Officer.
